Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer wholesale? TOP

Yes we do on an individual basis.  If you are a gallery or designer please contact us for details.

Where does your inspiration come from? TOP

My inspiration comes from everything around me...books, magazines, art, travel, anything where something makes me look twice, especially colour combos.  It could be as simple as the night sky fading from a light blue to the darkest of black.

What is lampworking? TOP

Lampworking is a centuries old tradition of melting glass over heat.  In today's age we use much hotter torches than back in the "Olden Days".  Basically it is the heating of glass and then winding it around a mandrel, which creates the hole in the bead.  Lampworking or torch working also refers to sculptural work as well but that is another topic.

How is Caliente Cane made? TOP

The cane is made in a glass blowing studio where a large gather of clear molten glass is coloured serveral times.  In between colouring the glass is heated in a glory hole to keep it molten.  Once the glass is coloured the gather is then pulled into a very long cane or rod of glass.  Depeneding on how fast or slow the gather is pulled out determines the thickness of the cane.  We try and get the cane into a certain size parameter but every now and then we end up with super thick cane, I so lovingly refer to as riding crops!  After the glass is pulled and cooled it is then cut into 13 inch pieces for shipping.

Why "dog blog"? TOP

My blog is dedicated after Fairlane my Whippet.  She was, and will always be, my best friend.  Fairlane lived 15 wonderful years.  I cherish those days and the memories I will always have of her.  Two days before my move back to the West Coast to start my new life she passed away.

Do you take custom orders or requests? TOP

Absolutely but only on the beads, not the cane.  We can work with you on design elements such as size, colours and shape for loose beads or finished jewellery.

What is annealing all about? TOP

Once I have finished creating a bead it goes directly into a pre-heated kiln.  Basically annealing is the process of removing internal stress from the bead to ensure that all the molecules are where they are supposed to be.  Many imported beads, such as those made in China or India have not been annealed or cleaned of their bead release.  Buyers beware!

What type of glass do you use? TOP

As well as using my own line of Caliente Cane I also use Italian, American and German soft glass.

Do you have a return policy? TOP

Yes!  If for some reason you are not 100% happy with my beads you can return them minus auction, Paypal and shipping fees.  Please contact me prior to return.  I am not responsible for damages incurred on items if they are shipped back so I suggest insuring them.

What is your shipping policy? TOP

Once payment has been made the products will go out on the next shipment.  I usually ship 2-3 times per week.
