Welcome to Cinco de Mayo (5th of May) and for those who don't know the holiday commemorates an initial victory of Mexican forces led by General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguínover French forces in the Battle of Pueblaon May 5, 1862. The date is observed in the United States and other locations around the world as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride. I will be celebrating by locking myself in the studio and working - LOL.
This week will be insane so I am glad I had a weekend off! Mom's birthday is on the 8th so I have a feeling that it will be a late night. I made a few more "Walk the Plank" pirates and one is up on Etsy - blood red bandana with gold dots. Hopefully I will make a bunch more today for Bead & Button. The set left "Emperor" is on Ebay - Silver Blue base with Gold scrolls - super opulent!
The hedges are looking amazing - I really should count how many I have, well maybe I will do that after Darren is finished trimming them - don't want to scare him LOL. The weather was awesome so we set up the deck for the first outdoor dinner - sure is nice to be out there again!
Well I have made it to another Friday relatively unscathed! Duran Duran was awesome - yet again!!! I have lots of pics of the show and of course Henrietta bustin' a move and drinking beer. I was going to show one of them but then I made some NEW beads for the Davy Jone's Locker series and had to show you one. The bandanna was Mom's idea and it does make perfect sense. I put 3 of the 10 I made up on Etsy and hoarding the rest for Bead & Button. (2 sold but there will be more week)
This weekend my hedges are starting to get worked on - HUGE job as I have so many of them - should be an adventure I'm sure! I know I have a hardhat somewhere from my construction (hoist operator) days, LOL.
Well I am going to walk to the post box to ship some beads as I can feel my body stiffening up already from today's workout - oowwww!!
My Quote For the Day* If corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables, what is baby oil made from?
Today is a very short day in the studio because...........wait for it..........tonight is DURAN DURAN!!! I am so excited. To make things even more exciting rumors that Neal Diamond coming to down have been confirmed. OMG I have waited so long to see this man live! I remember laying in bed, as a little kid, while Dad cranked Cracklin' Rosie on the stereo downstairs.
This weekend I spent away down in the US. Sitting by a fire, playing horseshoes, exploring and basic chill-axing was done for two full days. The weather held out fairly well and we didn't get rained on really. This pic is from the fire pit...don't you just love Sepia!! I have a set of beads on Ebay that would totally match this pic, lol.
You have probably noticed that there is a lack of cane on the site. A couple of very large orders wiped out stock and the hot shop is closed for a couple more weeks so new cane won't be pulled for a bit still. I am thinking not until after Bead & Button so if there is anything want/need you might want to grab it now. I have a few colours that need to be weighed and inventoried which will happen sometime this week.
* My Quote For the Day* I love cooking with wine . . . sometimes I even put it in the food.
Well I just have to talk about this leaf before I get into anything else! Damn this baby turned out awesome! Very fantasy inspired, actually it almost looks cartoony to me (is that a word?) I made 12 last night....2 are on Ebay and 9 went into the Bead & Button box and 1 is ready to be electroformed for B&B. My goal is to have 100 of them made for the show. I have also listed 2 more hollow auctions on Ebay in great little Summertime colour combos.
Tonight I am chillin' and watching movies with Darren and his kidlets and then tomorrow down to the States for the weekend. Weather looks nice - finally!!
I am getting excited about the cruise in May!! Well excited and freaked out...because I am going to be away from the torch during major production time and 2...because I don't have enough clothes!! LOL On a short cruise I usually spend most of my time in the cabin changing outfits...I love getting dressed up and this looks like a pretty nice ship. That last cruise (on Carnival) was a bit of a let down. People did not get dressed up for dinner and right after dinner they changed into their jogging pants and sweat shirts (not that there is anything wrong with that, lol). I could get into detail but it would make me look like a "cruise snob"....which I am but I don't want to offend anybody, LOL. I need to get Henrietta a new wardrobe as this is her first cruise experience and she really only has casual and beach clothes. Too bad Barbie gowns don't fit her....now there is a girl who knows how to dress!!
* My Quote For the Day* "love will kill the fear, do you believe - you must believe" Robbie Williams
Where as the week gone - geez!! I got a fair amount of torching done last night...all Pirate themed. New work on Etsy as of this morning. I was not able to torch on Monday night as it was Sue's birthday and a bunch of us celebrated at the pub with her.
I did have to rake the lawn (5 piles) and then I pulled out the weed-eater and had another "go" at the lawn. Now it looks like a rock star lives here instead of a crack head (not that there is anything wrong with that ;>) As I look out the studio windows I see more Dandelion flowers popping through - guess it is time to pull out the Weed & Feed! LOL
Last night was another late dinner date and then tried to make it through a few more episodes of Lost - not sure who fell asleep first, LOL. I remember waking up with Jasper standing on me.....has anybody figured out how may pounds per square inch is inflicted upon us - holy cow it felt like he weighed a tonne!! I also had a "critter" visitor last night....another raccoon (now named Ricky - how original). It is funny how the cats are not afraid of him but they sure hiss when another cat is on the deck. We had a little talk about how Ricky is NOT their friend...he may look cute and eat food with his hands but he also eats CATS...to which I had to explain to Jasper he actually was a cat and NOT a dog.
A shout out to my Maui Mom Shelagh!! Tried snorkeling lately ;>)
Good Monday morning to you all! Another gorgeous day here! It was a fruitful weekend here at the house. I spent most of Saturday outside doing yard work which is going full-tilt! Thursday night it did snow - YES I said snow...totally bizarre! All gone but I am not sure I have recovered . I did go down to the pub on Saturday night for a few hours and hung out with some friends. Sunday Mom came out and helped me move boxes from my family room area (for lack of a better word) so I can get ready for the new flooring to be installed. I am luring my sis out to help me take off baseboards and remove the carpet and then kidnapping my friend Darren to lay down the floor. It will look so great!!! I am not a fan of carpet (let alone teal carpet) so the new wood floors will be awesome!
Mom has been creating a new line of "Charmed" bracelets. Inspired by the Pandora craze but with her own twist. My own flameworked beads (Silver Blue encased) paired up with .925 Sterling Silver, Antiqued Pewter and Austrian Crystals. The beads slide on the bracelet but they won't come off. I am wearing two together and they look so great! I have listed 3 on Etsy for sale.
I just got back from Sebastian's house (next door neighbor) to steal his lawn mower. I can't get mine started yet and it is either I mow the lawn with his mower or I get a goat today!! It is going to be a painful go as the lawn is so thick!!! I have a feeling that raking will be involved! I love mowing the lawn but I could really do without the raking part!
Holy Cow...I just have to tell you that I am totally "off the hook" with excitement right now - I just bought tickets to Duran Duran for the end of this month. They are kicking off their North American tour here and Vancouver is the only Canadian date!~! I saw them when I lived in Calgary and before that was 18 years earlier. They were amazing!!! - both times!!! You know Henrietta will be there!!
Alright back to business!! I have 99% of the orders shipped out and am about to fire up the torch. Wanting to show my latest silver capped creation - now on Etsy. Caliente black core - raku frit - enamels - fine silver wire - encased with Crystal Clear and then silver capped with antiqued PMC caps I made. I have had a few comments that it looks similar to Van Gogh's Starry Night painting - what a compliment!!
Lots going on here - like normal. A few new ideas in the works as well as shows and teaching....never a dull moment! LOL
* My Thought For the Day* Take care of your thoughts . . . they may become words!!
Welcome to another Monday!! I survived the weekend down at Frantz Art Glass for the Fire & Rain Bead retreat. I went down with Kerri Fuhr and Stephanie Cannon (also going to Bead & Button with them) and of course Henrietta. Henrietta was very pro-active this weekend; she drew names for door prizes, donated to a young bridge-to-be's bachelorette party, danced, helped with a bead demo and finally did a bit of shopping. I was my regular "wall flower" self but still had a wonderful time. The retreat was incredibly well organized and the talent there was amazing! I attended several demos and learned lots! I am so excited for the next one!
Today I silver capped a couple of encased galaxy beads and will be putting them on Etsy in a few minutes. They are a Black base, enamels, silver wire, encased in clear and then capped with PMC silver caps I had made.
I have a bit of shipping to do and then taking a night off to recover!
* My Thought For the Day* If you have to choose between two evils . . . pick the one you've never tried before ;>)
Well here for a quick update before I fire up the torch for the night. I have listed 3 new Ebay auctions for Caliente hollows - don't they look great together!! So much for the hoarding for Bead & Button!! lol
All of the shipping is up to date now - yay!!
My dinner date went quite late but it also started around 11pm, lol. Then we showed our dedication to the 80's and watched the movie Valley Girl - totally awesome dude!! I think that is my fav movie with Nicholas Cage in it, lol. I will try and torch as late as I can but I was given 2 James Dean movies - the Commitments - Syriana and of course Valley Girl. One of the fastest ways to win me over.....give me movies, LOL.
* My Thought For the Day* Ever been scared half to death. . . well don't do it twice.
Okay - back to my creepy beads!! I really want to put these bat wings on a male torso but thought I would practice on a heart and they turned out really great. I was on a heart kick last night and they are now in my Etsy store. I also cranked out a bunch of smaller Raspberry and Cranberry hollows and need to figure out if I am hoarding them for Bead & Button or putting some on Ebay. I can't make any big decisions like that until I am at least finished my latte.
Kind of a grey day here but the weather man is calling for 20 degrees for the weekend - of course I will be stuck inside at a bead retreat. Not complaining...okay maybe a little bit. I really need to get that lawn mower started now - the grass will go crazy with that kind of temperature!
I have shipping to get done today, some computer work, a short trip into town, light the torch and then a late dinner date.
* My Thought For the Day* If you are going to walk on thin ice . . . you might as well dance.
Thought I would pop by for a Monday update.....let's see - well it's Monday, lol. The weekend was good, mostly because I did NOT watch the last hockey game - are you kidding me 7-1 and the 1 was the Canucks score - sad! Instead I headed up to Laura and Morgan's jam room for an evening of loud music. I got to beat on the drums again and Laura sang. I even got a standing ovation - LOL. Laura is heading back out on tour this week so one more visit will be in order before she leaves.
This weekend I am heading to a Bead Retreat down at Frantz Art Glass - should be a lot of fun and I will be sure to bring my camera and my laptop.
This is my latest leaf and the picture for the Bead & Button program advertisement. I have another one in the electro-bath right now and it should be coming out late tonight. I have shipping to take care of today so I won't be torching until tonight.
As if I didn't have enough distractions in my life (mind you they are good ones ;>) Hell's Kitchen has started another season. I don't have a TV but am watching it on U-Tube. So now I am trying to fit in Lost - America's Next Top Model (I don't want to hear about it) & Hell's Kitchen Season 4. I am such a series "junkie" when I like one.
* My Thought For the Day* why do we put on a "pair" of pants when in actual fact it is just the one???
Welcome to the weekend - woo hoo! Mom is hear working on a few projects, one is the pic to the left. The beads are encased Silver Blue Caliente and they fit on the Pandora/Biagi/Troll bracelets. She panicked a bit when I took them away from her to photograph them, lol. Actually these are hot off the presses - my friend Sue came over last night and I torched and visited until 12:15am.
Tonight is the Canucks last hockey game and I will go watch - and maybe bang my head against the wall because this is really the end of the hockey season for me. Mind you I am kinda excited about all that extra "free time" I will have now, lol.
Today is supposed to be PMC bead cap day in the studio so I guess I should get the silver working area prepped - gee I hope I remember how to make those suckers!
* My Thought For the Day* Why isn't 11 pronounced onety-one??
Well I am back from my, short but oh so sweet, getaway. The weather was amazing and at night the sky was so dark and packed with glowing stars. I spent much of the night staring into the fire and relaxing. I was in charge of cooking up a gourmet dinner of Ballpark wieners on a stick and beans were heated on the edge of the fire (not my job). Now I am not sure if I am feeling recharged or just sad that we had to come home, lol. Managed to visit the cheese farm again and this time Mom put in her own order. Cheese curds, feta and paneer - mmmmmmmm. I still have Jalapeño Gouda and Sharp White Cheddar with Bacon still in the fridge. Oh, all this cheese talk, I think I am going to make a little snicky-snack for when I am torching!!
It is so beautiful outside and I must admit I did try to start my lawn mower but no go. I have to take the plug out and clean it and I just do not have the right socket size to get it out, which is probably a good thing as I should be torching.
I should have lots of new sets to show tomorrow and maybe put some up for sale.
Just a quick post from me as I am taking off to the States for the day/night. I made some beautiful, Autumn inspired leaves (HUH) last night and have one up for sale on Etsy.
Yes today is April Fool's Day but I do not partake. When I was little my cat was run over on April 1st and I remember my parents telling me. I thought it was the worst joke EVER and did not believe them. I was really young but totally remember it and ever since then just enjoy the really BIG jokes....like hanging a car off a bridge! Yes that was a true story if you are waiting for the "punch line" lol.
The weather is fantastic and I am looking forward to sitting in front of an open fire tonight and regrouping. The torch sessions are just going to get longer and longer into the night to get enough stock ready for Bead & Button in June. To make things more crazy I am heading down to Frantz Art Glass for a few days on April 11th and then on a cruise just before the show.
DOH - crazy girl!
And I am just adding a pic of Fairlane the name sake of the Dog Blog. If you wanna know more check out the FAQ page....
